TRUMPET PLAYING

8th December 2009

Dear Brian

On behalf of the PSO. Penrith City Choir and  Warrimoo Chorale I would like to thank you  for your performance on Sunday.  It was a delight to hear such accomplished trumpet playing.

Messiah has become a great tradition in the district each Christmas and continues to draw an enthusiastic audience. I thought this year’s concert reached a very high standard and it was an exciting occasion.

With our best wishes for the Festive Season.

Sincerely

Jenny Bounds
Orchestra  Manager, Penrith Symphony Orchestra

2013 ITG Conference Recital

"The recital opened...showcasing Brian Evans' beautifully lyrical sound...."

"I love listening to you play Brian. Your tone is like adding two sugars to a cup of coffee. Just sweet."

"The man brought me to tears with that performance. The two of them brought some unique music alive for us. I sat in shock and awe at the end - simply stunning performance!"
 Mark H. Schwartz (u.S.A.)

"On my way back home from the International Trumpet Guild Conference. What an incredible week of performances, master classes, exhibits and of course the best part - hanging and catching up with so many old friends and the getting to know so many new friends!! So many highlights; where to begin?? I have to let it all percolate for a while but I'd like to single out Brian Evans' recital of the music of a number of Australian composers that I was not familiar with. His sensitivity, gorgeous tone and heart-felt performance brought me to the edge of tears! ... "  Rick Ragno (Canada)

Many Moods of Christmas - Sydney Philharmonia Choirs, Dec 2014 - Manly Daily review

"....These were interspersed in the first half with some older favourites including an excerpt from Arcangelo Corelli’s Concerto grosso No. 8 and trumpeter Brian Evans’ beautiful duet with Matthews in Handel’s aria Let The Bright Seraphim from Samson"

TEACHING

"Thank you for taking on Ian in the past 18 months, in the midst of your demanding teaching and performing schedule.  We appreciate very much the sound musical technique & knowledge you have imparted to him during this period"

"Sophie came out of her lesson on ‘a high’ and has remained like that this afternoon/this evening so thank you!"

" Lucy's trumpet skills have improved tremendously with your tuition  and the attention to technique and detail that you have given to her playing."

"Thank you for the many years of teaching Aaresh [the trumpet], a skill, he has learned from the best. "

As artist in Residence Queensland Conservatory of Music, Griffith University 2016
"In October Brian Evans visited QCGU and his first duty was to perform a recital as part of recovery from a quadruple bypass no less! As well as enjoyable renditions of well known pieces such as Geodicke's "Concert Etude" and Tchaikovsky's famous Cornet solo from "Swan Lake "we were also treated to sensitive interpretations to lesser known home grown works "Kigan" by Christopher Perrin and "Serenade" by Brendan Collins.

"I was not alone in my admiration for Brian's determination and strength of character to perform so soon after major surgery, he was in confident form and the big sound was already back in place.

"Brian was very generous with his time for the students not only teaching the trumpets but the other brass as well. As a teacher I was grateful (and relieved ) to hear Brian reinforce some of the basics that come up regularly but what also struck me was his unfailing positive and encouraging approach, oh and the need to SING !
If anyone gets the chance to attend Brian's lecture "The Operatic Trumpet" do so , it was absolutely fascinating and Brian's very honest and real insights into what it means to be a professional trumpet player were eagerly digested by the keen trumpeters of QCGU. Thank you for your hard work Brian, it was great to have you here."
